A gunman opened fire on a crowd in North Philadelphia, shooting over 50 times. The incident took place at an Instagram party. Seven people were injured, including a 16-year-old girl in critical condition. The police are actively looking for a juvenile suspect.

Details of the Shooting

Around 3:30 a.m., shots were fired near the intersection of North 11th and West Cumberland streets in North Philadelphia. The shooter fired more than 50 rounds into the crowd.

A 16-year-old girl was among those injured and is still in critical condition. Other victims include men and women between the ages of 20 and 30, who are currently in stable condition at Temple University Hospital.

The shooting occurred following an earlier incident at an Instagram party. According to police, the violence was caused by an argument between two males. The gunman allegedly pursued the crowd, extending his attack to North Jessup Street before fleeing the scene.

Police discovered over 50 shell casings from three different weapons, and surveillance footage captured the incident. Authorities believe the gunman, who was most likely a juvenile, was dressed entirely in black. Captain Shaun Butts of the Philadelphia Police Department described the shooter as a “Black male juvenile.”

“This incident affirms why we can’t take our foot off the gas. Now is the time for us to keep pushing and continue with our comprehensive approach.” – Mayor Cherelle Parker

While data indicates progress, Philadelphia’s challenges with gun violence persist, necessitating continued focus and intervention to ensure public safety.
