1

Vice President Kamala Harris is showing somewhat competitive polling numbers against former President Donald Trump as the 2024 presidential race heats up. According to multiple recent surveys, Harris and Trump are in a tight battle, with Trump holding a narrow lead in several key polls.

The latest aggregate data from 67 polls indicates Trump leading Harris by 2 points, with Trump at 47.4% and Harris at 45.4%. This slim margin underscores the competitive nature of the upcoming election, as both candidates vie for the presidency.

Two recent polls highlight the closeness of the race. An NPR/PBS News/Marist poll of 1,174 registered voters shows Harris slightly ahead of Trump by 1 point, 50% to 49%. Conversely, an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll of 2,431 adults reveals Harris trailing Trump by 3 points, 49% to 46% among registered voters.

Harris' performance is notable given the recent challenges faced by President Joe Biden, who has been under increasing pressure from within his party to step aside due to concerns about his age and debate performance.

Biden has, however, reiterated his commitment to remain in the race, stating, "I’ve got to finish this job because there’s so much at stake".

In another poll conducted by Bendixen & Amandi Inc., Harris edges out Trump by a narrow margin of 42% to 41%. This poll highlights the volatility and uncertainty in voter preferences, with a significant portion of the electorate remaining undecided.

Despite these mixed results, Harris shows strong support among key demographics. She enjoys robust backing from women, with 52% favoring her over Trump’s 44%, and substantial support from Hispanic voters at 56% compared to Trump’s 40%. Among Black voters, Harris holds an 82% approval rating, which remains consistent with Biden’s performance among this demographic, but far below what Democrats have traditionally seen from Black voters.

The upcoming months will be crucial for both campaigns as they work to solidify their bases and appeal to undecided voters. Trump's campaign continues to capitalize on economic and immigration issues, while Harris focuses on maintaining and expanding the Democratic coalition.
